ESTONIAN FILMMAKERS’ UNION

Welcome to our web site!

Established in 1962, the Estonian Filmmakers’ Union is a non-profit organization and a creative union of professional Estonian filmmakers. There are 160 members in the Union and they represent different professions in filmmaking – screenwriters, directors, producers, cinematographers, actors, art directors, editors, gaffers etc. Two people work at the Union office – General Manager Erika Laansalu and Secretary Urve Jürida. The organization is run by a Board of Directors that consists of seven members: Peeter Brambat, Erika Laansalu, Mait Mäekivi, Ülo Pikkov, Mikk Rand, Mati Sepping and Jüri Sillart.

The Union will be happy to provide film festivals and organizations with information about Estonian films and filmmakers. We will also be happy to forward information from your organization to its members.

Estonian Film Days

Every year the EFU organizes the Estonian Film Days (EFD) a national film festival that has been held since 1998 and during which a selection of films produced in Estonia during the previous year are screened. The jury awards a prize to the best fiction film, documentary, animation and student film. In addition, each member of the jury gives a special award. The 8th Estonian Film Days were held in March 2006 with the Best Film award going to the short fiction film „The Empty Beach“ (directed by Veiko Õunpuu). Guests are welcome although subtitling of films cannot be guaranteed as it is dependent upon the production companies. Some of the films however, do have English subtitles. Please feel free to contact us with any questions regarding Estonian Film Days.

For more information about film screenings in the Cinema House please see www.kinomaja.ee.
